Clear Roads is an open, cooperative research
program aimed at funding highly relevant research
to meet the needs of winter operations
professionals around the world. This is an
ongoing pooled fund project that proposes and
funds new research projects or related activities
on an annual basis. An expanding membership will
help maintain and strengthen this ongoing
commitment to real-world winter maintenance
research.
All interested agencies are
asked to make a $25,000 annual commitment to
Clear Roads. The project funds cover investigator
work, administrative management of the pooled
fund, and travel for Technical Advisory Committee
members to committee meetings. States may use
100% federal funds to contribute to Clear Roads.
To make your financial commitment to Clear Roads,
visit the Transportation Pooled Fund Web site at www.pooledfund.org or
contact Kim Linsenmayer.
Clear Roads is now pooled fund project TPF-5(218), led by Minnesota DOT. Wisconsin DOT led Clear Roads from 2004-2009 under TPF-5(092).
Your agency's Technical
Advisory Committee representative will:
* Help select which projects get funded
* Evaluate technical proposals from academic and
private-sector investigators
* Oversee the research projects
* Meet with experts from around the country on
winter maintenance issues
* Travel to TAC meetings with expenses paid by
the pooled fund
For complete information about travel
reimbursements, voting, and other operational
aspects of the pooled fund, see the Clear Roads Operating Procedures.
Financial participation in a pooled fund has a
big impact. One contribution leverages large
amounts of research money to help address
national and international winter maintenance
challenges.
