Problem
While property managers, landscape companies, private contractors, and homeowners may not each use a large amount of winter materials, they’re large users in the aggregate, and therefore will benefit from education on the proper use of deicing materials. This topic is an increasing concern amongst environmental agencies as they attempt to mitigate negative effects resulting from the overuse or misuse of these winter materials
Objective
The goal of this project is to produce training / informational materials for property managers, contractors, and homeowners regarding the use of salt for deicing purposes to reduce the negative impacts associated with the overuse or misuse of salt.
Expected Results
A series of modules to educate non-DOT users on the proper application of deicing salt to reduce the negative impacts associated with overuse or misuse. The modules will be created by topic area and will be easy-to-understand for non-winter maintenance professionals and published in both English and Spanish to reach a wider audience.
