Unmanned aerial systems, or drones, can potentially increase safety and efficiency when used for a variety of common transportation-related practices such as inspections, data collection and emergency response. However, the use of drones for winter maintenance has not been explored in detail.
This new Clear Roads synthesis project surveyed maintenance professionals and reviewed published literature to identify opportunities in winter maintenance operations that could benefit from this emerging technology.
