Investing in snow-fighting equipment and technologies is critical to a successful winter maintenance program, but the economic benefits and potential risks associated with those decisions may not be well understood when agencies allocate their budgets.
This Clear Roads project developed a tool that states can use to quantify the economic value of their snow-and-ice programs. With this evidence, winter maintenance program managers will have more support to show the real-world costs, benefits and value of a sufficiently funded snow-and-ice-control program that could guide state agencies in determining an appropriate annual budget for these programs.
